Rachel again. I have a comment rather than a question. It is in regard to the ‘Cup Final Tracker’. This is great! I have added some modifications to the scoring for ‘react’ and ‘non-react’ and I am using the traffic light analogy. I have been scoring Jessie and making notes and already I am seeing patterns! Another big PLUS is that I see now how Jessie is in the Green category much more often than in the amber and red categories. I think I focus on her reactivity instead of on her successes. I love this!

This is Rachel. Under the heading “What causes reactivity?” It states that there are specific fears that can be passed down through several generations. What might be an example of this?

Hi: I am Rachel/Jessie. I am not exactly sure how to use the forum. I would like to add a question and comment for next week’s Q and A session (2/22/22) but am not sure which topic to submit it to. Is there a specific topic in which to submit questions? My question and comment refers to the Cup Final Game.

    Thank you, Rachel

    Hi:
I am Rachel and my dog is Jessie. Jessie is a 2yearold, spayed, red-tri-Australian Shepherd from working lines. She has abundant energy and super smart! I brought Jessie home at 9 weeks and soon thereafter the pandemic arrived and we were together constantly. I did get to take her to puppy classes but other than that she received little socialization with people and dogs. I am so fortunate because she LOVES people and loves to play with other dogs. She reads other dogs well and uses calming signals and, if they want to play she is ready to run and wrestle. However, on leash it is another story. She responds to other dogs on leash with lunges and growls (but usually not if the other dog is off leash surprisingly). She is especially reactive if the other leashed dog stares at her, approaches head on or seems to be following her or acts reactive in any way. Needless to say we do not go on leashed walks in our neighborhood. We have spent months going to a park and taking short walks on leash where she has learned to look at me for a treat when she sees another dog. We have very slowly decreased the distance where she still feels safe. To me her reaction is fear based and she is using her lunge to make the other dog back off. We turn away and she calms down quickly. She is much improved, but I would really like her to feel safe and comfortable in the presence of other dogs so that we could join classes. Sorry this introduction became so long-winded! I am looking forward to this course.
