KeymasterHi!
I recently found this video from The Kind Canine that does a really great job of introducing BAT for reactivity. It’s lengthy but a good watch. https://youtu.be/slYnab4leSA

KeymasterHi Moriah! I am so glad you are here! I look forward to meeting you and Roma both in the live Q & A sessions and in our upcoming private lessons. I know you will find just what you are looking for in the course to support your journey with Roma. Please keep in mind, management is our friend, not our enemy. We need management and a lot of it in the early stages of working with our dogs. It helps keep their stress levels low so that they can learn new ways of responding. Stress impedes learning. Loosening up on the management over time will happen. Changing emotional responses and therefore behavior is a marathon, not a sprint. I am always delighted when someone tells me they are already using management because it tells me you are tending to the needs of your dog. You are off on the right track!

KeymasterHi Rachel!
It sounds like you’ve made some great progress with Jessie! We have another Jesse in the class. She is an 8 year old pittie mix. I look forward to hearing more about your work with your Jessie. You’ve been working on this issue since it emerged so I know you have a lot of experience and knowledge to share with your peers here. Thanks for being here!

KeymasterHi Cindy! I am so glad you are here! You have a wealth of experience and knowledge to share with others about your journey with Rocky. You are right, there is a balance between management and training. At what stage in training do we let up some of our management to give the dog the opportunity to progress? Are they ready? Does it change from one context to another? All of these questions are very individualized for every dog. It is important to know what YOUR dog can handle and when. Often becoming familiar with your dog’s barometer comes from experience. My goal for my students is that you have enough knowledge about your individual dog (their body language, triggers, threshold distance, skills they know well, and your game plans for all you may encounter) so you can safely and confidently navigate situations. For some dogs, reactivity always requires some degree of management and that varies by the dog. I hope to help dogs still have an excellent quality of life even if they experience reactivity and some of their life experiences require some management. Thanks for being here!
